Founded in 1910, it is a comprehensive hospital of Grade 2, integrating medical treatment, disease prevention, health care, scientific research and teaching. The hospital covers a land area of 19,000 m2, with floor space of 24,000 m2. The hospital has 200 beds and a staff of 1,230 persons, of which 174 are medical personnel. Of all the medical personnel, 13 boast senior professional titles and 28 boast intermediate professional titles. Personnel with senior or intermediate professional titles make up 23% of the total medical personnel. One of the special features of the hospital lies in treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and other tough respiration system diseases, and the hospital is thus rated by Ningbo Health Bureau as the designated hospital for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. It is also the only hospital in Ningbo that has wards for pulmonary tuberculosis in-patients. Scientific research on subjects like cancer genes has been going on in the hospital since years ago, and so far 3 achievements have been awarded the prize for scientific progress by the municipality or the province.
